Student/Faculty Basketball Game/Food Drive (see pictures!)
On Friday, December 13th, 2002 Heritage Middle School held the 1st
Annual Student-Faculty Basketball Game/Food Drive.
This game consisted of the 8th Grade Boys Basketball team taking on
male members of the faculty. The whole idea of the game was
to get a little school spirit going
before Christmas Break.
The food drive was used as sort of an admissions fee for the 6th,
7th, and 8th grade students. In order for the students to attend
(the game was held during the school day) they needed to bring at
least one non-perishable item into their homerooms.
The students were given about two weeks to bring the goods in.
As a whole, we collected around 1,000 items. These items were
then given to CEP (Community Extension Program) and St. Joe's
Food Pantry. This food will go a long way in helping the less
fortunate during the holiday season.
As for the game...The Faculty team members were Chris Zack,
Mark Murphy, Jon Baricovich, Dennis Lewis, Bryan Drozd, Ben Salgado,
Bob Rehr, David Negron, and Rafael Toranzo. The 8th Grade
team consisted of Roland Triplett, Jose Espada, Bradley Richardson,
Kamran Harper, Jeff Butler, Freddy Ramirez, Dominic Gallaga,
Kennedy Jones, and Brandon Kane.
The game started out neck and neck
(0-0) but the Faculty was able to use its height and wisdom to
get out to a lead and never look back. The final score was 60-40
in favor of the Faculty. By winning this game, the teachers earned
bragging rights for the remainder of the school year. Mr. Lewis is
believed to have been the high scorer for the faculty (somewhere around
20 points). Kennedy Jones led the 8th grade team with around 15-20
points.
Hopefully this game will continue on through the years with the same
amount of success it had this year. Thanks to everyone for the support.
